Glenn Vickery was born June 20, 1951 in Mobile, Alabama. He played football, basketball and baseball at B.C. Rain High School. Vickery played fullback, tight end and defensive line for the Red Raiders on the football field. He was a pitcher on the baseball diamond and played forward on the basketball team.

Vickery was named MVP his senior season for his efforts in football and basketball. Vickery played in the Lions Club All-Star game as a junior and a senior. "My high school coaches" says Vickery " were a big influence on me. Ben Glover, also my Sunday School teacher, and Bill Bacon for showing me coaches can be good Christian men as well." Both coaches are members of the AHSAA Hall of Fame.

Following his high school days, Vickery signed a baseball scholarship with South Alabama. He did not play at South Alabama because a few months later he signed a minor league contract after being drafted by the Montreal Expos. After playing in the minor leagues, he received his M.A degree from South Alabama.

Vickery continued to play baseball. "My summer league baseball coaches were tough men (ship yard workers, welders, etc.) but had a passion for baseball and pushed me to be competitive."

Coach Vickery said his father was a big influence on his decision to play sports and find a successful career in coaching.

In 1975 Coach Vickery started the athletic program at Mobile Christian serving as head football coach and athletic director. He remained at the school for four seasons and compiled a 34-7 record winning the Alabama Christian Athletic Associations State Championship in 1979.

He served as an assistant football, freshmen basketball coach and head baseball coach and Davidson High from 1980-83. Coach Vickery was the head baseball coach at Spring Hill College from 1983-85.

Vickery returned to Mobile Christian in 1986 where once again, he was the athletic director and head football coach for the next eleven seasons. He also served as the head basketball coach, head boys and girls basketball coach and girls softball coach for several years at Mobile Christian. His 1995 team won the AISA Class AAA Football State Championship in Troy.

In 1997 he moved across the bay to join Steve Savarese at Daphne High School as an assistant football and head basketball coach through the 2000 school year. Vickery said Savarese, who is the AHSAA Executive Director, " is a special friend and my mentor."

Davidson High School came calling in the summer of 2000 and Coach Vickery accepted the position as athletic director and head football coach. In four seasons his teams qualified for the playoffs three times winning two region titles.

When Steve Savarese left Daphne in 2004 Coach Vickery accepted the head football coaching position at the school on the Eastern Shore. Over the past eleven seasons his Trojan teams have reached the Super Six Championship game twice, winning it all in 2011 with a 7-6 squeaker over Hoover.

Each of the Trojan teams qualified for the playoffs and the Trojans won six region titles during this run. Coach Vickerys overall coaching record is 245 wins and 111 losses. Coach Vickery stated he appreciated "my wife Nancy, for 42 years, for supporting me and the kids I have coached." I suppose the obvious can be said; behind every successful coach is a great wife.

Coach Vickery has received many honors during his career. He was named Coach of the Year by the ASWA in 1995 and 2010. He has also coached in the state all-star games.
